About Woodstar
The name Woodstar Counselling and Consulting comes from the Esmeraldas Woodstar hummingbird. This species is an incredibly tiny and rare bird in a very specific location in Ecuador that experienced significant population decline due to overlogging, urban development, and pollution. They were thought to be completely extinct from 1912 until 1990 as no bird was seen during that period. Researchers later found a small number of the birds in 1990 in a new area nearby their original location, demonstrating the tiny birds’ resilience and adaptability. Since then, the local people and various environmental organizations have worked together to place protections on the area that the bird inhabits. As a result, the Esmeraldas Woodstar hummingbird population is once again growing. Like this bird, people can experience hurt and trauma that cause them to begin to question their strength and capabilities. But when others come together to support them, and they learn to use their own resources to heal and adapt, true hope can be found and they can begin to live a life of purpose and fulfillment.
Mission
Our mission is to provide high quality counselling and consultation services to individuals, families, and groups that will empower them to heal and thrive- emotionally, mentally, physically, relationally, and spiritually.
Vision
A ripple effect of improved wellness that moves from individuals and families to their larger communities and beyond, so that they may be grounded in hope and belonging as they fulfill their life’s purpose.
